About 12 years ago my parents, Roy and Pauline had the great ambition to start up a vegetarian grocery store. They raised my brother and I vegetarian long before it became cool and mainstream. A Healthy plant based lifestyle was their greatest desire. They started out with a vision even before those early days, in fact, I was 7 years old when they began to formulate their concept of a ministry based model. They would give away thousands of free literature about health and its benefits and the great 8 laws of health format. In May 2005 they opened their storefront on Malabar Road in Malabar, FL and called it Right Arm Ministry just before the Recession. Well as some can imagine, people thought it was a church not a grocery store. With limited start-up funds and on the salaries of a nurse and construction worker they embarked on this journey. No business training, marketing or sales experience or even a solid network. They took a leap of faith into the unknown and Wow, was that completely rough. The recession was at its prime and my parents were forced to downsize leaving the storefront behind. The recession took us all by storm, construction almost completely stopped and in between being laid off and placed on one income and slow sales it became extremely challenging. Life changed, sons' moved away for university and work and still my parents kept holding on to the hope that one day the store would be recognized by others as a source for much needed healthy ingredients and a vehicle for community outreach. Green Foods Market (formally Right Arm Ministry) welcomes you with open hearts to visit, share and enjoy the healthy ingredients we love. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
